Woolwax™ "LV" is a thinner version of traditional Woolwax™ (still very little smell)
Some people just prefer a thinner version in the interior panels. It is really not necessary as the traditional Woolwax™ creeps and migrates just as well as the thinner version. However some people are of the mindset that they want a thinner products. So for them we offer Woolwax™ "LV" Low viscosity.

Because Woolwax® "LV" is a thinner lanolin/wool grease formula, it is best used  indoor applications on machinery and other equipment.
Woolwax® "LV" should not be used as a vehicle undercoating in areas such as the undercarriage that are exposed to the elements.  Woolwax® "LV" is the same viscosity as Fluid Film® lanolin and oil-based products. These products have proven to wash off too easily when exposed to the elements. But there are applications where a thinner formula can be used.  For these situations we have developed Woolwax® "LV".   Only traditional Woolwax® will provide long term protection and resist wash-off in areas exposed to road wash and other outdoor elements.

Suggested Applications for Woolwax® "LV".

  • Locks
  • Any type of equipment that is stored indoors.
  • Firearms & fishing reels
  • Any metal equipment that needs corrosion protection & lubrication.
Woolwax® "LV" is available in color Straw (applies clear)
Woolwax® "LV" is completely compatible with traditional Woolwax®, and can be mixed.

Note:  Woolwax® "LV" is about the same viscosity as Fluid Film® lanolin and oil-based products.  However we do not recommend it for undercarriage areas as it will not provide long term protection when exposed to the elements.  And we especially NEVER recommend low viscosity coatings in the most critical areas, inside the frames, rockers, and doors.

All our lab testing has always indicated to us that lower viscosity formulas that “seem” to migrate further actually provide very little corrosion protection. There is a misconception that thinner is better in cavities. And we have thinner formulas (LV & XLV), so it's not about "the sale". Some people tell us that they use the Woolwax™ for the undercarriage and some thinner brand for the cavities because they think it creeps better. That’s just not accurate. The traditional Woolwax™ creeps and migrates just as well and leaves a thicker coating than a thinner formula. It may take us a bit longer to get there, but Woolwax™ will travel to all the same nooks and crannies and leave a much thicker surface build on the way. We cannot emphasize enough that it is not about the creeping. It is all about the thickness of the “surface build” that is protecting the base metal.

On enclosed areas "surface-build" is everything. Thin formulas will creep, and the surface build gets thinner and thinner all along the way as it "drops off" material until the coating is so thin, there is almost no surface-build to provide protection. This is an area where dirt, salt, and water can accumulate and sit idle. It requires a good thick surface- build to prevent the idle water/salt from reaching the metal frame.

We are not implying that creeping migration is completely insignificant. Migration is very helpful in areas where gravity is in your favor (downward). Viscous products (like Woolwax™) will achieve a significant downward drag (creep) leaving behind a thick coating in its trail.

Upward liquid flow migration (against gravity) is more limited and less effective. Upward migration of a low viscosity liquid can often be mistaken for protective coating, when it is nothing more than a thin layer “wet staining” that offers little to no corrosion protection .

Bottom line.... original thick Woolwax™ (or any viscous coating) will provide better protection for enclosed areas (frame rails, etc.) than thin formulas that leave a very fine surface-build that water/salt can penetrate easily.

Available in quart bottle, gallons, 5 gallon pails, and 55 gallon drums.
